A FAMILIAR NAME RETURNS TO PRO STOCK

Not sure how long the lettering on a certain red Pro Stock Ford has been there. At a recent test session in St. Louis, word has it the name Lewis Worden was spotted on this unnamed Mustang.

TJ DRIVING IN INDY

Top Fuel driver Tommy Johnson Jr. plans to pull double duty at the NHRA U.S. Nationals. Word has it TJ has been given blessings by team owner Don Schumacher to drive a second Rapisarda Top Fuel dragster in addition to conducting his normal track duties with DSR.

AN ENGINE BUILDER CHANGE IN PRO STOCK?

More details continue to be revealed regarding the reason Rodger Brogdon and Steve Kent opted out of the NHRA's Western Swing. A source close to the situation said the team has severed ties with engine builder Cagnazzi Racing and will soon announce plans for an in-house engine program. Word has it the team could add a third licensed Pro Stock driver to their roster, as well.

PRO STOCKERS SITTING OUT WESTERN SWING?

A conspicuous absence during this weekend's pre-NHRA Mile High Nationals test was Rodger Brogdon. Brogdon, who finished in the top ten last season, and is currently No.9 in points, is rumored to be sitting out the Western Swing along with teammate Steve Kent. As for his reasons, Brogdon reportedly isn't talking.

DON'T HOLD OUT HOPE FOR CADDY PRO STOCK

GM Pro Stock fans might have to pool their love around the new Camaro Pro Stockers because this might be the only option for the near and distance future. Sources within the chassis building industry have confirmed the Cadillac CTS coupe project is all but dead in the water. At earliest, one source tells us an option could come around would be in 2015 after a reported design change.

FRAM/PRESTONE LEAVING DRAG RACING?

A highly reliable source within the nitro pits has told CompetitionPlus.com that longtime drag racing sponsor Fram/Prestone will pull out of all motorsports at the end of the 2012 season. Although our source is pretty confident this is the path the company plans to take, we can only hope this one changes direction.


NHRA TO CONTEST THEIR VERSION OF SUPERCAR SERIES?

Tony Schumacher and Antron Brown, U.S. Army teammates to Sprint Cup Series stars Ryan Newman and Tony Stewart, might have a surprise later this month for NASCAR fans at Charlotte Motor Speedway at the Coca-Cola 600.  Rumor has it the two might perform the first side-by-side Top Fuel exhibition burnouts on pit road as part of pre-race ceremonies.


GOODNESS GRACIOUS, THERE'S A GIRL IN ADRL SUPERCAR

Randilyn Shipp is expected to earn her place in drag racing history during the ADRL Spring Drags in Bristol, Tenn. She will become the first female to compete in the ADRL's SuperCar Showdown. Sources indicate there could be two as Grace Howell, the NHRA Pro Stocker, joins the tour.


TAYLOR GOING SOLO IN BRISTOL

Frankie Taylor is known as the Mad Man in ADRL circles. This weekend during the ADRL Spring Drags he'll be the Lone Man. A team spokesperson confirmed team crew chief and Frankie's brother Paul, of Thursday is not making the trip with the Pro Extreme team. The spokesperson for the team would not divulge the reason for his absence but multiple sources have told CompetitionPlus.com there is a rift between the two, largely over Frankie's decision to sell the championship winning blown engine in favor of a turbo combination.
