VENABLES ON THE MOVE AGAIN?

Multiple sources have confirmed that Dickie Venables will be named as the new tuner for Bob Tasca III today.  Venables was going to tune both Tasca and Brittany Force's dragster simultaneously, but a complaint from another team that this would mean the two separate teams are one and violate the four cars in one class ownership rule.

ANOTHER THEFT RING BUSTED AT THE RACES

Word has it there was another rash of break-ins in the sportsman pits, this time at the NHRA Gatornationals. Apparently a Super Gas racer was in his motorhome when the alleged thief entered. Apparently the racer and the would-be thief scuffled with the perp getting a little roughed up. Apparently he had seven other wallets in his possession when he was turned over to authorities.

MORE NOSTALGIA AA/FC TRIBUTES COMING

Word floating around the Famoso pits during last weekend's Bakersfield March Meet is that a couple of NHRA legend-themed cars are on the drawing board. We've heard of a forthcoming Connie Kalitta Mustang and one which might be awful entertaining to us -- Billy Meyer. Most likely the tribute will be the Plymouth Arrow but wouldn't it be neat to see the SMI Camaro and even though it is outside of the rules? The Citation would be incredible.

A FAMILIAR FACE REJOINS CAGNAZZI

Look for a familiar face to join Cagnazzi Racing this weekend. Word has it that former Cagnazzi tuner Tommy Utt has rejoined the team. In what capacity this is, remains to be seen. Utt was the crew chief for Rodger Brogdon before leaving to join KB Racing.

MELANIE TROXEL TALK IN POMONA

A source close to the Morgan Lucas Racing team said the rumors of her rejoining the team as a third Top Fuel driver are "so far away from happening it's not even funny" and not likely to come to fruition, if they do, this season. But, that's the rumor and an unofficial statement. You decide.

ESPN NOT SO UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL THIS YEAR?

In years past, ESPN2 cameras have had free reign over the starting line at NHRA Full Throttle events. Not so this season, according to sources. Reportedly the network's  insurance limitations for the network have mandated limited handheld camera access to the restrict area locations of the strip.

VANDERGRIFF TO RUN THREE CARS?

Apparently there has been some wheeling and dealing going on in the Bob Vandergriff Jr. motorsports compound. The word from inside sources confirm JR Todd will drive a second car for three to four races. The marketing team is reportedly hard at work trying to stretch it into a 12-race deal. Also in the mix is possibly a third car with the intent of keeping Larry Dixon in Top Fuel.

DIXON SAYS HE'S GOING TO RACE THIS YEAR

Larry Dixon plans to race in 2012 but how he does it remains to be seen. Dixon said on SPEED's Barret-Jackson Auction broadcast that he plans to field a team in 2012 and run at minimum a part-time schedule. The details remain unknown at this time as he remains tight-lipped regarding how it will happen.

THE SPONSORS ARE COMING!

Major announcements should begin flowing into the media over the course of the next two weeks.

The first is expected to be Brandon Bernstein announcing he will drive for Morgan Lucas Racing along with new sponsor to fund the complementary car to Morgan Lucas' Geico dragster.

Also expected this week will be an announcement coming out of the Don Schumacher Racing camp pertaining Matt Hagan and his title defense. They are expected to announce a new sponsorship package.

LEE LEAVING JIM DUNN RACING?

In this crazy up and down rollercoaster ride of the 2011 NHRA silly season, word has it that Paul Lee will not return as the driver for the Jim Dunn Racing flopper. There has been no offical confirmation of this departure. Rumors suggest nostalgia Funny Car driver Todd Lesenko could be the likely replacement if indeed, this comes to pass.
