MORE NHRA TV DURING THE COUNTDOWN?

There's no doubt, in the sports television world, football broadcasting is gigantic. Unfortunately the king is most active during drag racing's championship season. We are told, the NHRA plans to announce more rebroadcasts of the off-peak qualifying shows this fall. Our sources tell us a second broadcast of the qualifying shows will air at 1 PM on Sundays in time slots likely not to be preempted by live television.

ASHLEY FORCE-HOOD TO MAKE NITRO RUNS?

Ashley Force-Hood fans, we have an update. Word has it the past NHRA national event champion plans to renew her fuel Funny Car license in the days following the NHRA Summitracing.com Nationals in Las Vegas. We are told there are no plans to return to competition but she does want to keep her license intact.

NHRA PULLS RANDOM CHECK AT GAINESVILLE

The NHRA is already making some moves to ensure the nitro teams are playing by the spirit of the rulebook. A source close to the situation told CompetitionPlus.com the NHRA confiscated cylinder heads from a few of the leading teams following the NHRA Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals. We are told this was merely to check those units in competition in comparison to the ones submitted for approval. All cylinder heads were found to be in compliance.

DARTING DOWN THE STRIP IN 2014?

We are told by multiple sources, coming as early as next year we could see the next generation of Mopar Pro Stockers. The word coming to us is the next car in Chrysler Pro Stock line-up will be the Dodge Dart to replace Dodge Avenger, winning of the last two NHRA championships.

NEW CHEVROLET CAMARO FC BODY FORTHCOMING?

Chevrolet Funny Car fans can rejoice because we hear a new Camaro is in the works. According to our source, the new body will be available by spring of 2014 for the Top Alcohol Funny Car division. A professional design is expected shortly thereafter.

THE SS/AH CYLINDER HEAD MEETING?

Sources indicate Mopar will be gathering up their SS/AH racers for a meeting on Thursday at Indy to discuss certain issues regarding the modifications being performed on the HEMI cylinder head. Over the past 12-16 months, certain engine builders have interpreted the rules much differently than what’s outlined in the NHRA Rule Book. Apparently these guys have machined the intake side of the head so much, they’re relocating the valve cover bolt holes.

BID TO BRING SCREW BLOWERS TO NHRA PRO MOD?

CompetitionPlus.com has learned from multiple sources that a behind-the-scenes movement is underway to bring screw superchargers into the NHRA's Pro Modified division. Our sources tell us the movement is spearheaded by multiple teams currently running on the eighth-mile drag racing scene. A source close to the situation has said one of the teams has even offered sponsorship of an NHRA event as an incentive for pushing through the legislation. Could this mean these teams are losing faith in the eighth-mile drag race series?

SNAKE, THE SPOKESMAN?

The word floating to us suggests Don "The Snake" Prudhomme will be at this year's NHRA GM Performance U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. While the legendary nitro racer is there, we are told, he will serve as a Chevrolet spokesperson. Prudhomme last ran a Chevrolet Funny Car in 1970s, when he ran a Chevrolet Monza.

ERICA WILL RACE BRAINERD?

Erica Enders-Stevens fans can relax. We've caught wind Pro Stock's only female winner will return to competition during the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainerd, Minn.

Enders-Stevens name has remained on the NHRA's entry lists this season in hopes a last minute deal can be procured but we are told by a source close to the situation says she will indeed drive a Charter Communications sponsored car for Victor Cagnazzi.
