TIMELINE UNVEILED FOR ROUSH 2011 MUSTANG LINEUP

Using the new Ford 5.0-Liter, V-8 engine, both of these cars will have 412 horsepower and 390 ft.-lb. or torque, all while reaching an estimated 25 highway miles per gallon of fuel economy. Also new for the 2011 model year is the standard six-speed transmission, something that Mustang fans have clamored for over the past several years.

TOMMY DUPREE NAMED DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT FOR MMPSA

Tommy Dupree, a well-known face to many for his work in the drag racing industry, recently signed on to become the Director of Business Development for the Mountain Motor Pro Stock Association.  Dupree left his position with the IHRA to fire up the newly founded MMPSA. He will also be working with Pete Berner’s Performance Mechanical Contracting business.

Dupree is excited about this new endeavor and feels the MMPSA has a lot to offer. “I am very excited to be a part of this new group. These are great bunch of guys and I am very happy to dedicate my time and experience to help out. We have come a long way very quickly and we have all the tools we need to be successful.”

NEFF FORD PARKED FOR NOW

John Force, a 14-time NHRA Funny Car champion has come to a painful decision. Without the necessary funding, the Drive One Ford Mustang piloted by 2008 Rookie of the Year Mike Neff has been temporarily sidelined.

Force hasn't given up on getting Neff back behind the wheel of a Funny Car. However, with Pomona looming ever closer, it was best to use the team's resources to the benefit of those cars with full sponsorship.

“It's about the economy.” said Force. “That is why my fourth team is parked and Mike Neff is over with us. I use to say I had the million dollar brain trust; spread over four cars. Now I have it over one car - the million dollar brain trust.”

PRO NITROUS CHAMPION HEADED TO THE EXTREME?

Multiple sources have confirmed with Attitude's CompetitionPlus.com that reigning ADRL Pro Nitrous champion Khalid Al Balooshi will make the switch from a nitrous-injected combination over to a supercharged engine for 2010. We are told that he will be tuned by veteran tuner Howard Moon, who will continue to turn the wrenches for Von Smith.

SUPER CHEVY SHOW MAKES FINAL SCHEDULE CHANGE

Houston Raceway Park has become a shareholder in the Super Chevy Show series and has set a date to be part of the 30th anniversary season in 2010. The Baytown, Texas facility will replace Route 66 Raceway on the schedule and will host a Super Chevy Show for the first time since 2005 on Sept. 10-12.

Seth Angel is Houston Raceway Park's executive vice president and general manager. He helped get Houston on the Super Chevy Show schedule and is thrilled it could happen so quickly. Houston Raceway Park held Super Chevy Show events every year between 1988-2005.

"The Super Chevy Show event is obviously another marquee event on any racing calendar and it will certainly be a signature event of our racing season," Angel said. "We're thrilled to have it back at Houston Raceway Park and I know it is going to fill a huge void in the Houston market."

STEVE COLLISON: THE MAN WHO LOVED DRAG RACING TO DEATH

01_22_2010_collisonGifted writer, talented photographer, innovative editor – Steve Collison was all of that and so much more.

He passed away at age 54 nearly a decade ago, on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, fittingly while hard at work at his desk, pounding out the latest issue of Drag Racing USA.

Collison, who was inducted into the Drag Racing Hall of Fame in 2003, left behind a legacy as one of the premier photojournalists in drag racing history. More important were the relationships he forged with others in the industry – photographers, writers, manufacturers, and, especially, racers. With him, it was always about the racers. Collison – "Stevie" to his friends – may have been on a first-name basis with every pro driver in the sport, but he valued his relationships with no-name little guys at least as much.

KORETSKY, STANFIELD TEAM UP FOR 2010

stanfieldfotoKenny Koretsky has been intertwined with NHRA Pro Stock racing for more than 25 years, but the words championship contenders were seldom uttered when discussing his teams.

But that is about to change.

The popular team owner announced Thursday that he, driver/engine builder Greg Stanfield and Indicom Electric owner Greg Hill, another factory hot rod enthusiast, have formed a partnership. They
are focusing on a 2010 season they believe could be as bright as the familiar multi-colored race cars that run under Koretsky’s Nitro Fish Apparel banner.

BILL KUHLMANN: PRO MOD, PAST AND PRESENT

kuhlmann2Bill Kuhlmann swears a day is coming when he’s going to write a tell-all book on what happened behind-the-scenes during Pro Modified’s formative years. And for the Wentzville, Mo.-based Pro Modified icon, if the book is as successful as his part in pioneering the class, it could be a best-seller.

“A lot of people forget who had the first big wing…I had to make that,” said Kuhlmann, speaking to Attitude’s CompetitionPlus.com for the Two Decades of Thrill series. “Who had the first dual parachutes? I had to come up with that because my cars were too heavy to stop. Double frame rail car … no one had ever heard of them. Who had the first nitrous oxide on an engine that was over 615-cubic inches? Nobody wanted to take a chance and blow up their high dollar motor.”

Kuhlmann was accustomed to taking those chances.
