THE KALITTA TOYOTA

The Toyota body is undergoing some
minor repairs around the header cutout after the late night session on Tuesday.
A fuel delivery gremlin in the car seems to be limiting the chances for testing
with the Toyota body and may bring up doubts whether it will make its debut in
Indy after all.

SCHUMACHER, TONY PEDREGON QUICKEST AT MAC TOOLS U.S. NATIONALS TESTING

Tony Schumacher and Tony Pedregon
posted the quickest runs in their respective categories Tuesday at O'Reilly
Raceway Park at Indianapolis during testing for the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals,
the world's most prestigious drag race.

Schumacher and Pedregon will be among drivers competing in the $2.6 million
event, Aug. 30-Sept. 4 at the legendary multi-use motorsports facility. ESPN2 HD
will provide more than 10 hours of coverage of the historic
race.

Schumacher's U.S. Army dragster clocked the quickest Top Fuel run of the day,
covering the quarter-mile distance in 4.504 seconds at 328.06 mph. Schumacher
is a four-time winner of the U.S. Nationals and was runner-up to defending champ
Larry Dixon last season.

"We got beat last year and we've won it a couple of times, but there is
nothing like this place man," Schumacher said. " It brings back a lot of good
memories for me because 10 years ago at this race I got my start (1996,
runner-up to Cory McClenathan).  I’ve been to the finals here six times so it's
just something special for me at the Big Go.  I’m looking forward to it.  We
have a great race team and a great race car, we're performing well at Indy and
looking forward to getting back here next week."

MILLION DOLLAR RACE X1 JUST AROUND THE CORNER

Set to begin in just a couple of
weeks, the fabled BTE Million Dollar Race X1 will feature more “extra” races,
more money and a chance for one good, lucky racer to drive home from its home
track, Memphis Motorsports Park, with a cool $1,000,000 in cash. Dates for this
most famous of bracket races are September 14-17, and will be presented by a
plethora of sponsors and George Howard Racing Inc.

“This may be our best million dollar drag race yet,” Howard, of
Birmingham, Alabama said. In addition to bracket racers going off for a possible
$1,000,000, several other races and giveaways are planned for the weekend,
beginning on Thursday, September 14. Heading the list is a chance to win the
drawing for a new Corvette, to be given away on Saturday. Also, Howard has
planned a special 64-car shootout on Saturday for a custom-built $60,000 Pro
Street chopper built by Biker Haven and Danny Nelson of Arkansas, the same man
who has built scores of Super Comp and bracket dragsters. Then there is an
“everyone’s welcome” TCI Automotive-sponsored gambler’s race on Thursday that
kicks the BTE/Million race off, for a $10,000 first-place prize. Also on
Thursday evening , racers can enter a 64-car shootout for a $65,000, 30-foot

Optima/Roger McCombs RV stacker trailer that is fully loaded.

“I attended the IHRA race in Milan (Michigan) to watch and support
Doug (Kalitta, Will’s teammate). It was a fun event and I was wishing that we

It’s hard to pass up a race that is so close.”
