As of 6:30 PM, EST, Top Fuel racer
Bruce Litton from Indianapolis is still at Massachusetts General in Boston after
being transported following an accident at New England Dragway. According to
crewchief Richard Hartman, Litton has a concussion but it is a large gash in his
right arm that is their largest concern at this time.
Hartman pointed out that Litton’s recollection of the run is
limited and he is upset at letting the car get away from him.
Jack Beckman made test laps
yesterday under the guidance of veteran Whit Bazemore. Beckman drove the Matco
Tools car to a 4.9-second run at 310 on his first full run. He smoked the tires
at half-track on his second attempt.
From what our sources at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis
tell us, today they will finish up the license runs and even go for 4.70s at 320
miles per hour. If they are successful, Beckman will be in the car from Reading
until the end of the season.
Don Schumacher confirmed that Jack
Backman will be completing his licensing procedures in the Matco Tools Funny Car
this weekend at IRP. Current driver Whit Bazemore is cool with the scenario
citing that he understands the situation and doesn't blame Schumacher for "doing
what he has to do."
Both Schumacher and Bazemore confirmed that his driver is still
under contract until the end of the year.

back the points lead, made a diversion from the quarter-mile and headed to
Eldora Speedway on Wednesday.

teamed up with Top Fuel driver Scott Palmer at the O'Reilly Fall Nationals in
Dallas to promote their new "Bring It To The Track Program." The program is
designed to educate young adults on the dangers of street racing and to
encourage them to bring their vehicles to their local racetrack. A free logbook
and entry to win a complimentary Roy Hill Drag Racing School experience is
offered for those street racers who bring their vehicles to the racetrack during
the month of September.
The NHRA Competition Committee has
announced an adjustment to the maximum overdrive limit in blown alcohol
dragster combinations. Effective immediately, the blower overdrive limit will be
increased to 2.28 for all screw-type supercharger entries.
