SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS CHANGE OF VENUE?

Pro Stock's Greg Anderson will remember Phoenix for much more than the race in which he had to start off by racing his brother-in-law, who was competing in the  KB Racing-powered Pontiac which Anderson had campaigned for most of last season.

He simply will remember it as the race in which he was glad to escape with his body and equipment intact.

PRO MOD ALL-TIME TOP 20 DRIVERS - NO. 8 TOMMY MAUNEY

pm_logoAttitude’s CompetitionPlus.com, through the assistance of a key group of Pro Modified historians and enthusiasts, has compiled a list of the Top 20 all-time drivers based on their contribution to the class, historic achievements, statistics and fan appeal.

Starting on Friday, January 8, 2010, the electronic magazine began revealing those names on the list, and will announce two drivers per week, until the No. 1 driver is unveiled on Saturday, Mar. 20, during the ADRL Dragpalooza in Houston, Texas.

Attitude’s CompetitionPlus.com narrowed the list from hundreds of drivers down to 20. Today, we reveal No. 8 on the list.

REVERSING SATURDAY PRO QUALIFYING ORDER WAS THE RIGHT THING, NITRO TEAMS SAY

The NHRA shuffled its qualifying order during Saturday’s rain-delayed qualifying by staging the Top Fuel and  Funny Cars ahead of the Pro Stockers and for the majority of nitro teams, it was a step in the right direction.

Racing was halted earlier in the morning when rain showers began falling in the middle of preliminary sportsman eliminations. Instead of finishing sportsman competition when the track was dried hours later, NHRA opted to go right into Top Fuel. Traditionally Pro Stock would have run first.

The NHRA announced earlier in the day professional qualifying would be limited to just one session.

ANDERSON SENDS STRONG MESSAGE; PRO STOCK TO FINISH AT GAINESVILLE

When Greg Anderson completed his first-round run in Sunday's NHRA Arizona Nationals, track announcer Alan Rinehart told him it looked like he drove the Summit Racing Pontiac just fine.

The three-time Pro Stock champion, clearly upset, corrected Rinehart: "No, I didn't get it down there OK. I almost crashed the car." Anderson began his next sentence with "That racetrack --"  and the sound coincidentally cut off the public-address system.

But Anderson got his message across loud and clear in an interview with ESPN's Gary Gerould.

INJURED NHRA ARIZONA NATIONALS SPECTATOR DIES

A woman, struck by debris earlier today at Firebird Int'l Raceway during the NHRA Arizona Nationals, was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. A wheel and tire became detached from Antron Brown's Top Fuel dragster during a first round eliminations match up against Troy Buff.

NHRA ARIZONA NATIONALS TO FINISH MONDAY

A long day came to a welcomed end with racing incomplete at Firebird Int'l Raceway.

Rain, more rain, a horrible crash, rain and another crash finally brought the day to an end without a single champion crowned in the NHRA Arizona Nationals.

WOMAN INJURED AT NHRA ARIZONA NATIONALS

A female attending the NHRA Arizona Nationals received serious injuries today after being struck by debris at Firebird Int'l Raceway. She was transported by helicopter to Good Samaritan Medical Center for treatment. The debris came from Antron Brown's dragster following an incident during the first round of eliminations. Brown was not injured but went to Chandler Regional Hospital at the insistence of his team.

NHRA offcials are investigating the incident.

BROWN UNINJURED IN PHOENIX CRASH

Top Fuel driver Antron Brown was involved in an accident during the first round of the NHRA Arizona Nationals in Phoenix.

About roughly 400 feet into race against Troy Buff, Brown's dragster lost a left rear wheel. The dragster made an abrupt left turn, crossed the center-line and made contact with the left retaining wall,  where it rode along the top, before coming to a stop.

Brown exited the car under his own power and walked over to the ambulance.

SCHUMACHER DRIVES HIS WAY TO TOP OF PHOENIX QUALIFYING

Tony Schumacher, driver of the ARMY Top Fuel dragster, shrugged saying, “I got nothing.”

Nothing but the No. 1 starting position for the NHRA Arizona Nationals at Firebird Int'l Raceway. Schumacher's 3.818 second, 317.05 mile per hour pass lifted him past Doug Kalitta, who couldn't improve on his 3.825 second pass on Friday.

“We missed by a mile,” Schumacher said when asked about his run. “And, everybody did. I was talking to Mike (Green). We were just dead soft. And, you get out of the car and say, 'man, number one qualifier with a run so far off' it just goes to show you we're all missing it.
