TROXEL DOUBLING UP AGAIN

It's going to be another double-duty weekend for Melanie Troxel as she'll wheel both the In-N-Out Burger Funny Car and the In-N-Out Burger Pro Mod racecar at the upcoming 23rd annual O'Reilly Auto Parts Spring Nationals, which run Friday through Sunday at Houston Raceway Park.

It's the second time Troxel has raced two cars in the same weekend with the Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla., her first double-up experience.

"I've certainly got a much better idea of what to expect out of this weekend," Troxel said. "Strangely enough the things I was worried about going into the season weren't the things that caused me problems.

COUGHLIN'S 1997 HOUSTON MEMORIES FUELS THIS WEEKEND'S OUTING

Jegs-first-pro-win-97-houstonFour-time Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. has amassed 48 victories in the sport's toughest category, a total that has him ranked among the best in NHRA drag racing's 59-year history. He's managed to win at almost every track on tour, except the one in Charlotte that was just recently added to the schedule.

Yet for all his victories, the one that remains his favorite is his first, which took place in 1997 at Houston Raceway Park in just his second professional start. He hopes to recapture that glory April 9-11 at the 23rd annual NHRA Spring Nationals in the Houston suburb of Baytown, Texas.

ADRL ADOPTS STARTING LINE DRESS CODE

In order to continue to reduce the risk and help keep national events running efficiently, the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) is introducing a starting-line dress code for its race teams at all national events.

Beginning Apr. 23-24, at the ADRL Hardee’s Georgia Drags VI at South Georgia Motorsports Park, all ADRL crew members are strongly encouraged to wear matching collared shirts. These uniform shirts will become mandatory for all starting-line crew members May 21-22, at the ADRL U.S. Drags III at Virginia Motorsports Park.

“As the ADRL grows we want to recognize and address things to reduce the risk and make things more efficient for everyone involved,” ADRL Director of Security William Vandiver said.

FORCE BACK ON TRACK WITH HOT START

Force_ShowerFor all those so-called drag racing experts who officially wrote John Force off as an NHRA dominator in the Funny Car class, and said his world championship total is finished at 14 titles, it’s time to eat a little crow.

Who could blame Force if he feels just a little bit of sweet satisfaction right about now?

After enduring a tough stretch of seasons marred by tragedy, turmoil, crashes and mediocrity, NHRA legend John Force has finally emerged from all the chaos and regained his swagger.

He got it back through hard work, sweat, dedication and an incredible desire. It is the same desire that led him from a middle of the pack performer in the late ‘80s to the bigger-than-life 14-time world champ throughout the ‘90s and early 2000s.

BEVIS BATTLES HIS WAY BACK FROM CANCER

04_02_2010_bevisYou don’t need to tell Todd Bevis he’s a blessed man.

Bevis, of Mooresville, NC, lives day to day believing a blessing from above is the only thing which stands between him building race cars for Victor Cagnazzi and residing six feet under.

Bevis was diagnosed with cancer on May 13 of last year. Six months after the last chemo treatment, he was at the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals smiling more than ever. The former drag racer turned tube-bender realizes the experience of the last year has been as enlightening as it was painful.

MICHAEL KNIGHT'S LATEST COMMENTARY

The unfortunate realities of life mean that, in a down-a-couple-of-cylinders economy, one business is off-to-the-races like Tony Schumacher and the U.S. Army Top Fuel team.
