RICHARD HARTMAN DRIVES TO EMOTIONAL IHRA VICTORY

HartmanJust seven months ago following a bad fire at the season opening Palm Beach Nitro Jam in Florida Bob and Cathie Floch, owners of the well-known “Bullet Bob” Prostalgia Nitro Funny car, were on the verge of walking away from the sport after nearly four decades in the business.

With a destroyed car and seemingly no hope of repair by the season’s second race in Baton Rouge, the Floch family found themselves carefully weighing their options as to what to do next. Then came a miracle. Dozens of racers from across the country came to their aid, lending parts, cash and support to help get the “Bullet Bob” machine back on the track.

Now, exactly seven months after that fiery accident and the ensuing outpouring of support, “Bullet Bob” is back in victory lane.

BOB GLIDDEN COULD RACE AT INDY

gliddenIf it feels right to Bob Glidden, then he’s going to do it.

That’s exactly what the ten-time NHRA Pro Stock champion says about racing this weekend’s NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. First, Glidden says, he will partake in two days of open testing in Martin, Mich., Tuesday and Wednesday, to determine if he’s ready to release the clutch on Jim Cunningham’s Mustang Pro Stocker.

“I might make a run or two and if it doesn’t feel right, I might not do it,” said Glidden, a nine-time U.S. Nationals winner. “I might make a run or two or a couple of day’s worth … depends on how I feel.”

GAYDOSH TO REPRESENT HOT RODS FOR HEROES AT INDY

TROY COUGHLIN MAKING UP FOR LOST TIME

Troy Coughlin knows time is running out if he is to defend his NMCA Pro Street title in his JEGS.com Pontiac this season.

"Well, we're one round behind third place, but six rounds behind the leader and there are only eight (rounds) left this season, so mathematically we're alive," Coughlin said. "Obviously, it's going to be very difficult. We'd need a lot of things to happen and the way Chris (Rini) has performed this year you certainly don't expect him to drop off."

Heading into this weekend's fourth annual JE Pistons NMCA Muscle Car Nationals at Milan Dragway, Coughlin isn't going to give up without a fight.

cmacindyCory McClenathan powered his FRAM dragster to a performance better than both ends of the current Top Fuel track record at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis Thursday during the second day of testing for the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil, the world's most prestigious drag race.

McClenathan, who finished second in the regular season standings, covered the race distance in 3.790 seconds at 324.28 mph to lead all cars participating in the test. Tony Schumacher holds the current track E.T. record at 3.819 seconds and Antron Brown is the track speed record holder at 319.11 mph.

DIXON'S DREAM SEASON KICKS INTO COUNTDOWN

dixonLarry Dixon has been steadfast in his drag-racing fundamentals: think only about the next round, race your own potential, never underestimate your opponent. He's not one to predict or look too far ahead.

But he also doesn't dodge questions. Considering his responses in this week's NHRA Countdown teleconference, the top-seeded Top Fuel driver has all the confidence this performance success will carry through the six-race showdown that starts next week at Indianapolis with the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals.

His dragster-driving rivals might gulp in apprehension if they heard the Al-Anabi Dragster driver say that comparing this nine-victory season with his championship runs in 2002 and 2003, "So far it's better."
