In one of the tour’s most breathtaking environments, venerable Pacific
Raceways is surrounded by towering pine trees and parked in the shadow
of majestic Mount Rainier and represents the middle stop on NHRA’s
long-running and much-publicized Western Swing. The trees add more than
beauty: They emit tons of power-enhancing oxygen to feed the appetite
of the high-horsepower machines, resulting in prime performances.

 

The second half of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series season kicks
off with the first of three consecutive weekends of racing and one of
its greatest challenges. Teams travel high and deep into the Rocky
Mountains to more than 5,800 feet, where the altitude plays havoc with
everything.

Bristol Dragway is known as “Thunder Valley” not only because it cuts a path
between mountains, but also because it can be home to incredible performances,
and repaving will have done nothing but aid those pursuits. The facility hosted
NHRA’s Springnationals from 1965 to 1967.

Racing Equipment Motorsports Park. The track was founded in 1963 and purchased
in 1973 by the Bader family, which continues to make improvements. Last year,
the facility underwent a $4 million improvement project.
