THE IHRA COMMUNITY WEIGHS IN ON 2010 RACE FORMAT

Three days after the IHRA’s announcement of a major format overhaul, their contingent of racers, nitrojamtrack operators and race fans are digesting the news that the IHRA, for the first time since its 1971 debut, will run without qualifying and a traditional eliminations format.

Friday afternoon, the Norwalk, Ohio-based sanctioning body issued a release stating their 2010 format will essentially be based on a Chicago Style format where each professional eliminator will make two runs during a two-day Nitro Jam event and the final pair of the second session each day will represent the final round.

The IHRA events will no longer carry the designation of Nationals and will be limited to a three-hour window to complete the professional portion of the event.

WILL SPONSOR DRIVEN TWEETS GET A DRIVER IN TROUBLE?

jfr_twitterUnder new Federal Trade Commission guidelines drivers can still climb out of his or her race car spouting of about how their sponsor supported manufacturer product drove the quarter mile or the 1000 foot thanks to the wearing of a uniform that makes it obvious the driver is being paid for his comments.

What about when the uniform is not so obvious?  When the contact between athlete/entertainer/celebrity lacks the face time achieved by television or a personal meeting the rules have changed courtesy of the advent of myspace, facebook, twitter and similar products. Faceless contact has come under close scrutiny lately as the Federal Government attempts to protect the unwitting consumer.

Adkins had a slightly quicker reaction time, but missed his dial-in time of 6.98 seconds with a 7.02.
