UK Sportsman racer Spencer Tramm is headed to the USA to compete in three NHRA events at the end of the 2009 season. Spencer, who was UK National Super Pro ET Champion in 2008, will be contesting Stock Eliminator in Jim Rizzolis E/SA '67 Camaro at National events in Las Vegas and Pomona and a divisional event in Las Vegas.

Under new Federal Trade Commission guidelines drivers can still climb out of his or her race car spouting of about how their sponsor supported manufacturer product drove the quarter mile or the 1000 foot thanks to the wearing of a uniform that makes it obvious the driver is being paid for his comments.

What about when the uniform is not so obvious?  When the contact between athlete/entertainer/celebrity lacks the face time achieved by television or a personal meeting the rules have changed courtesy of the advent of myspace, facebook, twitter and similar products. Faceless contact has come under close scrutiny lately as the Federal Government attempts to protect the unwitting consumer.

In one of the most dramatic and pressure-packed races of his long career, Team JEGS driver Mike Coughlin officially put the wraps on his second North Central Division Dart Top Sportsman Series championship following a dramatic victory at this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, Ga.
 
Coughlin entered the event as the point leader, with just one driver, Ricky Adkins of Milan, Mich., was in range to catch him. But Adkins needed to win the event in order to do so. In a strange twist of fate, Coughlin and Adkins both advanced to the final round where Coughlin emerged as the champ after driving his JEGS.com Chevy Cobalt to a 6.77 on his 6.75 dial-in for the victory. Adkins had a slightly quicker reaction time, but missed his dial-in time of 6.98 seconds with a 7.02.
 

The Goodguys 2nd Nostalgia Nationals at historic Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky was a colorful blend of hot rods, vintage race cars, crisp fall weather and an enthusiastic crowd that witnessed a spectacular weekend of racing and hot rodding. In the end, the weather got warm and rods and race cars packed the quaint facility owned and operated by Dallas Jones and his family. The 2nd Nostalgia Nationals served as the third and final Goodguys Vintage Drag Race of the 2009 season.

In the final results from Silver Dollar Raceway and the NHRA Southeast Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Duane Shields out ran Bill Reichert for the Top Alcohol Dragster title and Alexis De Joria took the trophy in Top Alcohol Funny Car.

Shields, Boulder City, Nev., laid down a 5.298 second lap at 272.01 mph for the quickest run of the day against defending national champion Reichert of Owosso, Mich.  This is Shield’s sixth win of the year sitting third in the national points standings going into this weekend’s event.

For nearly three decades, drag racer Troy Coughlin has chased his dream of winning a national title. Sunday at Memphis Motorsports Park, the 45-year-old Coughlin finally realized his goal, taking the top division in the National Muscle Car Association by racing his JEGS.com Pontiac GXP Pro Street machine to the semifinal round of the season-ending Nitto Tire World Finals.
 
"Now I know what it feels like," said Coughlin, one of four brothers who own and operate JEGS Mail Order in Delaware, Ohio. "I've celebrated all of my brothers championships over the years and enjoyed them all immensely, but I always wanted to get one for myself. Now I know the feeling, just like my brothers, just like John Force and Tony Schumacher and all the others who have been lucky enough to win it all. It's pretty special."

NHRA Top Fuel star Antron Brown will be the Newsmaker of the Week on The Race Reporters radio show, Wednesday, October 21, 7 p.m. EDT, on www.PowerUpChannel.com.

The Matco Tools dragster driver is currently fourth in the Full Throttle series point standings, with two races to go. He has five wins, seven poles, and a 46-17 rounds won-loss record this season. Brown swept NHRA’s traditional “Western Swing” races – three events in three consecutive weeks.

Before moving up to Top Fuel in 2008, Brown raced in NHRA’s Pro Stock Motorcycle class, where he won 16 times.
