FORCE FAMILY DOMINATES NORWALK’S N.U.F.

For over three decades the Bader family has hosted what has become the largest single-day racing spectacular in North America. The Night Under Fire has drawn huge crowds of enthusiastic spectators and the best of the best in NHRA Funny Car competition to Norwalk, Ohio's Summit Motorsports Park.

In addition to the fuel floppers, such attractions as jet trucks, jet dragsters, wheelstanders, and many other attractions from the world of motorsports entertainment have been an integral part of the big show in the Buckeye state. The Bader's also boast of exploding $100,000 worth of fireworks to cap the big show, and anyone who has seen this pyrotechnic spectacular will agree it's one of the best.

At this year's 33rd edition of the Night Under Fire, John Force, a man who has been part of the show for most of its lifetime, once again showed why he is still the most popular personality in the sport. Although daughter Ashley seemed to get a slightly more boisterous reception from the fans, her dad, who is having a tremendous season in NHRA competition this season, proved why he is the undisputed leader in Funny Car competition.

JR. DRAGSTER RACER DEFIES THE ODDS

Jr. Dragster driver Libby Ledford learned an important lesson about resetting her dial-in time this past weekend while racing at Mid-Michigan Motorplex and, it could be argued, she is a subscriber to the theory that truth is stranger than fiction.

On the heels of achieving a runner-up finish on Saturday, nine-year-old Libby (whose father and brother both compete in Bar’s Leaks/Rislone backed dragsters, SuperComp and Jr. Dragsters respectively) made a change to her bracket racing dial-in time for the final round of eliminations.  After dialing in at 13.03 and making a perfect run in the semis, Libby chose to dial in a hair quicker for the finals at 12.95, considering how well her Bar’s Leaks Jr.-sponsored Dragster was running.  However, as she began her pre-race burnout, Libby realized she had just made a critical error while changing her dial-in time, a change that per the competition rules could not be altered at this point.

FRIENDLY RIVALS ADD FLARE TO IHRA'S PROSTALGIA NITRO FC FIELD

ihra_rivals_6From the stands it certainly looks like just an ordinary race.

Peter Gallen, in his purple Vega, rolls into the staging beams. Across from him sits a bright yellow Camaro driven by Steve Nichols. The pair pushes forward, carefully monitoring who will flinch first. The green light flashes. In an instant they are away.

At the stripe it is Nichols by a nose, but this race isn’t over just yet. Gallen, who moments ago wanted nothing more than to destroy his opponent, also wants to be the first to congratulate him after a hard earned victory. Today it was Nichols who proved the fastest, tomorrow who knows.
