SHIRLEY MULDOWNEY'S 'LAST PASS' REPLICA DRAGSTER TO GO ON AUCTION BLOCK SATURDAY
The auctioning of drag racing legend Shirley Muldowney's one-of-a-kind Super Comp dragster modeled after her iconic "Last Pass" Top Fuel dragster -- the proceeds of which will benefit her namesake charity, Shirley's Kids -- will take place Saturday at the famed Fairplex in Pomona, Calif.
Muldowney will be there in person at the first Mecum Auction of 2018, ready to discuss the car itself, her championship career and to meet the buyer. The auction runs both Friday and Saturday with Muldowney's dragster slated to roll across the famous Mecum stage Saturday.
The Danny Nelson-built Racecraft Chassis, powered by a 582-cubic-inch Chevrolet Head Hunter motor from Sunset Performance was to be sold last year but the sudden death of Muldowney's son John postponed the sale to this weekend.
"The timing ended up being perfect with the Winternationals just finishing up on Sunday, which got everyone excited about the new NHRA season," Shirley's Kids Chairman Stan Holt said. "Our thanks to the professionals at Mecum Auction, who have been so supportive and helpful. They completely understood the situation last year and graciously moved our time slot to this auction."
Because of the generous support of sponsors, 100 percent of the proceeds from the auction will go directly to children in need through Shirley's Kids, a 501(c)(3) charity founded by Stan and Sheila Holt.
The dragster build was made possible through donations from John, Troy, Mike and Jeg Coughlin Jr. at JEGS High Performance, Danny Nelson at Racecraft Chassis Ultimate Sportsman Dragsters, Buddy Wood, Sunset Performance, Stu Grant and Bryce Jones at Goodyear, Digital Delay, the Original Lupe Tortilla Mexican Restaurants and Rob Geiger at Geiger Media Global.
