PRO STOCK STAR TANNER GRAY LEAVING PRO STOCK AFTER SEASON

According to a Sept. 24 article in Autoweek.com, NHRA Pro Stock star Tanner Gray is going to make the transition to NASCAR next season.

The Autoweek article states Gray will focus on stock car racing in 2019 with the DGR-Crosley team owned by Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series veteran David Gilliland and Crosley Radio CEO Bo LeMastus.

In a Sept. 25 article at nhra.com, it says Gray will compete in the NASCAR K&N East Series full time in 2019. That same article also said Gray may also compete in the Camping World Truck Series and in select ARCA Series races.

CompetitionPlus.com addressed the topic of Gray switching to circle track racing in 2019 during a Sept. 1 at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis.

When asked by CompetitionPlus.com if he was going to leave Pro Stock and go circle track racing next season he had the following response.

“I don’t know, they will just have to find out,” said Gray, who has done his share of circle track racing while also competing in NHRA’s Pro Stock class.

Gray, 19, is in his second year of competing in NHRA’s Pro Stock class. He won the Road to the Future Rookie of the Year Award in 2018, and this season he’s been even better.

Gray has won a class-high six races in his family-owned Gray Motorsports Valvoline Chevy Camaro, including the last event – the AAA Insurance Midwest Nationals Sunday near St. Louis Sept. 23.

Gray is atop the season points standings as he has a 52-point lead over second-place Vincent Nobile with four races to go in the Countdown to the Championship.

During his NHRA Pro Stock career, Gray has won 11 national events in only 44 races. Gray’s 11 career wins match the total of legendary of Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins.

Gray’s victories this season have come in Gainesville, Fla., Richmond, Va., Norwalk, Ohio, Seattle, Indianapolis and St. Louis.
