Bob Curran, 53, a popular racer in the NMCA community, was on killed on July 30, a victim in a motorcycle accident.

More commonly known as "Spongebob," Curren was popular amongst his peers. He was also a three-time champion behind the wheel of his Strange Engineering-sponsored Corvette.

"“Sponge Bob” was loved and respected in the racing community making everyone feel like they were part of the family. Always with a smile on his face, Bob is one of the most loyal and good hearted people you will ever meet and it is a true privilege to be associated with him," said Strange Engineering's Jeff Stange.

“We are saddened by the news of Bob, he was not only a racer but a close and personal friend of our staff and the NMCA community. His vivacious smile and easy-going attitude will be sorely missed,” said NMCA general manager Rollie Miller.

Those who knew him described Curran as a selfless individual and was always available to help his many friends. He was everyone’s “Go-To Guy” for everything, big and small. He would happily stop what he was doing to help a friend, at the drop of a hat. Whether it was an IT question, a car issue, or just much-needed advice, Bob was there to help.

Curran is survived by his bwife of 27 years, Suzanne, of Bartlett, Illinois; son Jeremy, and daughter Taylor, both of Bartlett; Parents, Bill and Joyce Curran, Sr., of South Barrington; Brother Bill (Lori) Curran, Jr., of South Barrington; Father and mother-in-law, Chuck and Pat Grystar, Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin; Sister-in-law Diana Budge, Deerfield; Nephew Brendan Budge and niece Lindsey Budge, Deerfield; Nephew Zachary Curran, South Barrington; and aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends.
