PHILLIPS, BIRCH HEADLINE SOUTHEAST GASSERS EXHIBITION IN UNION

The Southeast Gassers Association should be headed into its fourth race of 2020, but instead seeks to host its first event headed into June. Postponements of events by local health officials at the first three venues have made a mess of the schedule.

However, on Saturday afternoon in the midst of South Carolina's easing of the stay at home orders, the strictest period correct gasser series managed to get in some track time as part of the popular Steel in Motion event, held annually at Union Dragway, in Union, SC an eighth-mile track located southeast of Spartanburg. The event was an exhibition and not part of the championship series.

The top of the line Gasser division, A/ Gas was won by the Corvette of Kenneth Phillips, who stopped No. 1 qualifier, Todd Blackwell, in the final round.

En route to the final round, the No. 3 qualifier Phillips scored wins over Rob Walden, and Leslie Horne.

The B/Gas division featured a popular victory as Spartanburg's Joey Birch qualified No. 2, and scored the victory, topping Daniel Hayes in the final round. His road to the finals included victories over Jason Roberts, Ray Fassell, and defending series champion Tim Bailey..

The Southeast Gassers Association will begin its season on June 6, 2020, at New London Drag Strip in London, Ky.

The C/Gas title was won by Tim Hall, who stopped Larry Floyd.
Robert Peffley stopped Tommy Luther in the Super Stock final round
