ONCE AGAIN IT'S COURTNEY NO. 1 HEADED INTO RACE DAY

Drag racing has long been a right time, right place kind of sport.

For the second time in a row, Funny Car driver Courtney Force has been in the right place and at the right time.

Force covered the complex Atlanta Dragway racing surface in 3.932 seconds at 324.51 miles per hour to score the No. 1 qualifying effort at the NHRA Southern Nationals in Commerce, Ga. This is also Force’s second consecutive No. 1 qualifier at Atlanta Dragway, her fourth of the season and 20th of her career.

She faces Jeff Diehl in Sunday's first round for the second season in a row.

"I wasn’t sure if we were going to be able to improve after yesterday," Force admitted. "We had great track conditions; it was cooled off a lot for Q2. Then coming out today, we had some cloud cover which was great, and laid down some numbers."

Force kept walking her Advance Auto Parts entry up the ladder, climbing as high as fourth after Q3.

"It’s important right now to start collecting those bonus points, and we want to maintain that number two position throughout the weekend, and we’d like to go up to the number one spot by the end of the race tomorrow," Force said.
