NHRA CONFIRMS ATLANTA DRAGWAY IS UP FOR SALE

Atlanta Dragway, one of the three national event facilities the Glendora, Ca.-based NHRA owns, is for sale, according to a sanctioning body official.

Jeffrey Young, Vice President of Marketing and Communications, confirmed to CompetitionPlus.com, the facility located in Commerce, Ga., just outside of Atlanta, will be officially on the market soon.

"We're going to take [money from] the sale of the Atlanta Dragway and put it into upgrades at our other tracks," Young said.

NHRA owns Gainesville Raceway, Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis and leases the Fairplex in Pomona.

"There's some stuff that we need to reinvest on the tracks just to make them better for the fans and our racers as well," Young added.

Young said Atlanta Dragway is being sold with the hopes the facility will remain a track. However, according to sources, natural resources on the property could aignal an end as a racing facility following the 2021 season.

"We intend to sell the property as drag racing facility and [have it] continue as an NHRA member track and host national events," Young said.

NHRA has already begun a Plan B search should the new owners decide to use it for non-racing uses.

"We are currently working with other tracks in the Southeast region, in the Atlanta area, to make sure we continue to maintain the number of tracks we have," Young said.
