HIGH WINDS, HAZE DISRUPT BONNEVILLE SPEED WEEK 2021 KICK-OFF

On Thursday, August 5, high winds visited the Bonneville Salt Flats race course and wreaked havoc across the Salt.

Gusting winds to 80 mph caused complications throughout the pits and across racing courses. The high gusting winds persisted throughout the night.

Upon entering the Salt after first light, Friday morning course workers and helpers set about re-installing the race course entry / exits on the track, while workers in the Tech and Registration areas set about resurrecting the busiest part of the pre-race logistics.

The opening of today’s registration and inspection will be delayed as needed to get the event “back on track.”

No additional volunteers are needed as of 8:AM, MTZ. If helpers are needed again this week, please inquire at the Registration Trailer or seek out course officials.

A heavy haze blankets the race course due to the tragic West Coast wild fires. The salt is coated in many areas with a grayish ash and the smell of wood smoke is unmistakable in the haze on Friday morning.
