Top Fuel pilot Cameron Ferré is filling in this weekend at the biggest race on the drag racing schedule. Ferré will return to the sport to compete in the historic Denso Spark Plugs NHRA U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis in Brownsburg, Indiana.  

Ferre told the Monday Morning Racer show that he will be in the Leverich Racing Top Fuel Dragster this weekend. He replaces Joe Morrison, who is not able to compete due to a prior engagement for Labor Day weekend.   

Ferré had to get approval from Terry Haddock, before accepting this opportunity. He competed in the Terry Haddock Racing Top Fuel Dragster before the coronavirus pandemic hit and lost funding to compete.   

“Matt Hanley of Leverich Racing’s Car Chief reached out to me Monday morning just before the entry deadline and asked if I was available to fill in for Joe,” Ferré said. “Morrison, the team’s usual driver had a prior commitment and is unable to attend. Since we were not planning to run Terry’s car, I told them I’d be happy to fill in for Joe. My first call was to Terry to get his blessing and he thought it would be a good idea for me to stay out there and keep racing. I’m extremely grateful to Bob, Gary, Matt, and the whole team for thinking of me. 

“The pandemic has really put a damper on my 2020 racing plans. So I jumped at the chance to step on the gas pedal again. I’m having Nitro withdraws and I’m extremely excited to be back racing.” 

Morrison made his debut in the Leverich Top Fuel Dragster at the Lucas Oil NHRA Summernationals. The team failed to quality for this race with a 4.721 at 203.52 mph pass.

However, in August, Morrison qualified for his first career race at the Inaugural Dodge NHRA Indy Nationals presented by Pennzoil. He was eliminated in the first-round by Clay Millican with a 3.823 at 323.43 mph pass to Morrison’s 4.083 at 284.56 mph.

“Gary and the boys wanted to run the car this weekend and with Joe unavailable, it’s great that Cameron is able to step in and lend a hand to a fellow team that would generally be a competitor to him on any other weekend,” Leverich Car Chief Matt Hanley said. “We’re going to go out there and see how we stack up Friday night in the stout field of competitors and formulate a plan for the rest of the weekend.”

This weekend, during the U.S. Nationals, the Leverich Top Fuel Dragster will be sponsored by HI Tech Cam, Superior Engine Repair and Marks Mixers.
