IHRA PRO MOD CHAMP RUNNING NHRA

Kenny Lang, the reigning IHRA Pro Mod Champion, has made a jump 'to the other side' and will try his hand in NHRA competition this weekend as the Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge presents its first race at the ACDelco NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla. Lang will be sponsored in his efforts by Roger Burgess and ProCare Rx.

"Roger and I started talking last weekend in Baton Rouge at the IHRA event, and if it wasn't for him we wouldn't be here. I hope we can work something out for the long-term, because I'd definitely love to run NHRA the whole season," Lang said.

Lang and Burgess have more than a love of NHRA drag racing in common: the two are powered and tuned by the Canadian powerhouse Al Billes. Lang said that Billes was his biggest asset in winning the championship last season and had hoped he would be able to race more NHRA events this year with Billes’ help. Off-season changes, however, seemed to make that unlikely.

"Over the winter, we really wanted to put together a program to run this series, but when Al hooked up with Roger, we thought that option went away because of the possible conflict. After talking with Roger, though, he said he really wanted to have our team come and be a part of this program.

"We are at this race and are going to the Houston race for sure, and then I'm going back to IHRA to go to Rockingham. If Roger says he wants to do the three cars for the whole year over here, then obviously we'll do that - it's just all up to him, and I can't thank him enough for the opportunity even just for these two races," he said.

"With all the cars entered here, this will obviously be the fiercest competition around - the cars will all be very fast, and I want to race where there is good competition and a lot of cars.

"I want to race the best of the best and obviously NHRA is where they are," Lang said.
