Mike Carpenter confirmed this morning that his father, Pro Nitrous racer Charles Carpenter, suffered a fractured vertabrae in his Saturday evening accident during the ADRL Safety-Kleen Dragpalooza V at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, Texas.

Carpenter was in the first round of eliminations when he lost control of his 1955 Chevy at the finish line, impacted the wall and went airborne. The car remained upright and Carpenter emerged from the car before safety crews arrived. He was checked out by medical personnel at the track and released. He was transported to the hospital later in the evening complaining of pains in his back.
