A score of Pro Modified teams have migrated to Valdosta, Ga., for a few days of testing and shaking down combinations. Thursday was the first what is expected to be three days of preparation for the 2009 season. Among those in attendance are Jim Halsey with his new outlaw nitrous Camaro, Joe Baker driving Mike Ashley's new supercharged Camaro, as well as a score of well known outlaw and conventional Pro Modifieds.

Former IHRA Top Fuel world champion Paul Romine is also making a few laps with his nostalgia nitro Funny Car.

The only real parts casualty of the day belonged to Joey Martin, as his '55 Nomad Wagon broke a rearend and shook the car to the point the door ejected. He is expected to have the car repaired in time to run today. SEE THE SEQUENCE .

Much of the first day was reserved for launches and short runs.
