Sunday’s Racers for Christ chapel services will continue in the same familiar location at NHRA Full Throttle events for 2009, this according to team owner Mike Ashley, who recently purchased the assets of the Matco Tools-sponsored team formerly owned by David Powers and later Tim Buckley.

“The honor and blessing of Sunday morning services will continue,” Ashley said in a statement posted on the Nitromater message board. “I have the highest regard and appreciation for the [chaplains, Larry and Linda] Smiley's and RFC.”

Powers originally committed to hosting chapel services in his hospitality area dating back to 2007 as a means of establishing continuity for the RFC services.

Dave McClelland, Chairman of the Board for RFC, had this to say about Ashley’s support of RFC.

“I know I speak for thousands of RFC parishioners across the world of motorsports and particularly NHRA folks, when I express my heartfelt thanks for your continuing support of our efforts,” McClelland said. “I have been deeply involved with RFC for over 20 years and the blessings the "Big Top" provides to the Sunday Chapel Services are truly incalculable.”

Ashley has proven a man who will stick to his convictions of faith and family first by virtue of his past actions. The former NHRA Pro Modified world champion and nitro Funny Car U.S. Nationals winner, has stepped away on several occasions in observance of Jewish religious holidays as well as giving up an unprecedented Pro Modified winning streak to attend his daughter’s bat Mitzvah citing simply, “It was the right thing to do.”
