A 2009 schedule encompassing more than 50 individual events conducted over 96 days of racing and featuring such diverse attractions as the 38th annual IHRA Nitro Jam Spring Nationals, the ADRL’s Dragstock VI Pro Mod challenge and the 18th annual AHDRA Screamin’ Eagle Eastern Finals was announced Monday by Rockingham Dragway owner Steve Earwood.

“These are complex times,” Earwood said, “but people still need hobbies and diversions and they still need to be entertained.  We think this schedule addresses both of those areas.

After five Saturday editions of the Outlaw Street Drags Test and Tune program featuring grudge races and test-and-tune, the season’s first major event will be the Feb. 19-22 Rock Batteries Spring Blast featuring some of the nation’s top Pro Modified and Pro Stock racers including Robert Patrick, Elijah Morton, Brian Gahm, “Tricky Rickie” Smith and Quain Stott.

The IHRA Spring Nationals, featuring Top Fuel dragsters, Pro Modifieds, Pro Stocks and Funny Cars, will be contested April 24-26 as the second race in the IHRA’s national series.  As usual, the biggest event in the series will be presented by Advance Auto Parts and will feature Castrol Nite of Fire qualifying.

The World Finals, concluding event in the IHRA Nitro Jam Series, is scheduled Oct. 23-25, just two weeks after the All-Harley Drag Racing Association finale on the same high-traction quarter mile.

The MiRock Superbike Series, a joint venture between Rockingham Dragway and Maryland International Raceway, again will contest four races at each track with Rockingham events on March 27-29, June 26-28, Aug. 21-23 and Nov. 6-8.

Significant among the other events on the schedule are the McBrayer Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep “Mopars at the Rock” event that will be contested April 11th for the 18th consecutive year and April 4th’s “1320X,” an event from the producers of “Pinks, All Out.”
