Pro Modified may have gained a reprieve for 2009 pending a sponsorship deal expected to finalize by the end of the week, this according to Matthew Brammer, sponsorship agent for BrakeSafe Rear-End Collision Avoidance System, proposed sponsor for the series.

“It's no secret that I love Pro Mod racing -- I was the Series Director for what, three years before this year?” Brammer said. “It's also no secret that I have been working with a company, BrakeSafe Rear-End Collision Avoidance System, and we have put together not only a Funny Car sponsorship of Matt Hagan but also expressed great interest in working within the Pro Mod Series as a sponsor.

“To that end, BrakeSafe provided me a letter of intent long before Las Vegas to provide substantial funding if an agreement could be reached, and we have worked with Jegs to try to arrive at a series-sponsorship agreement. Troy Coughlin of Jegs and I have both expressed the same desire – that the Pro Mod series thrive and grow.

“After a lot of hard work, long trips, countless telephone calls, texts and emails, we are very, very close to announcing what that deal will look like, what companies will be involved in the administration of the series, and what the series might be called.”

Brammer believes the program with BrakeSafe can provide the stability for the long term, clearly a trait the NHRA Pro Modified division has lacked.

The NHRA Pro Modified division is completely funded by sponsorships and a fee is paid to the sanctioning body for inclusion. This division carries exhibition status and is not considered part of the NHRA Full Throttle series.

However, this potential sponsorship hinges on approval by the NHRA. Jegs was excused of their contract to sponsor the series in 2009.

Jegs officials issued a statement last weekend seeking marketing partners when a sponsorship deal in addition to their backing never came to fruition.

“I think it's important to note that these are very difficult times, and that sponsorship is a great investment for any company trying to expand market share and ride out the storms,” Brammer said. “Sponsorship can pay for itself many times over, and I'm really excited to be working with a company that has that kind of vision.”
