REED SET FOR PROFESSIONAL DEBUT AT WILLOWBANK

Willowbank Raceway’s ENZED International Nightfire New Year Series (January 2/3 and January 16/17) will see the Group One debut of former Supercharged Outlaws champion and local Brisbane racing identity Daniel Reed in the Top Doorslammer category.

The son of high profile husband and wife Top Alcohol racers Steven and Debbie Reed of the Reed Racing team, the 27 year old is a highly successful racer in his own right - taking the Willowbank Raceway Supercharged Outlaws Track Championship in 2004, 2005 and 2007 in addition to his 2007 National title.

Daniel, an engine builder for the highly successful Team Vodafone V8 Supercar team, will officially join his parents amongst the Professional ranks by taking the wheel of the Makita Top Doorslammer for the Brett Stevens Racing Team at round one of the ENZED International Nightfire New Year Series. “To race Group One in the ANDRA Championship Drag Racing series has always been an ambition of mine and I have previously successfully licensed in both my mum’s (Debbie Reed) Top Alcohol Dragster and dad’s (Steven Reed) Top Alcohol Funny Car,” said Reed.

“After meeting with Brett (Stevens) in October he offered me the drive in the Makita Top Doorslammer which is a fantastic opportunity for me to make the step up to the professional ranks.

“Drag Racing teams don’t come any bigger anywhere in the world and I will have the success and experience of numerous National Championships and records to draw on.

“I have already begun my Top Doorslammer familiarisation and performance testing on my Group One license and I will be ready to go come January at Willowbank Raceway.

“It is also very exciting for me be able to make my professional debut on my home track where I have had so much success in the sportsmen ranks and am now taking the next step in my driving career.”

While Reed will be looking to prove himself for the Brett Stevens Racing team, proven BSR steerer Steve Packman and his Top Doorslammer have prepared for their January campaign in style at Willowbank Raceway.

In recent testing, Packman ran his SP Racing Falcon to a personal best speed of 249.17 mph/401.00 kph, making him the third fastest legal trim Top Doorslammer in history behind Brett Stevens (252.66 mph/406.76 kph) and Gary Phillips (249.86 mph/402.27 kph).

“We are all really itching to get back out on track for the New Year Series at Willowbank Raceway, over the last month we have tested a few different setups on our Doorslammers and with a fairly mild tune up in race trim I ran my SP Racing Falcon to a PB speed,” said Packman.

“I was then also able to back this up on my next run with a 247.89 mph (398.94 kph) which shows we are really getting the consistency in running these numbers and now we need to convert this into points in the National Championship.”

“With the competition so tough in Top Doorslammer there are no guarantees that any racer will make the field on Finals day.”

“I think we are going to see more and more 5’s (five second passes) as well as some spectacular racing as teams really push the limits to get the best out of their cars and the tracks.”

The BSR team will be a dominant force at Willowbank Raceway for the ENZED International Nightfire New Year Series, with the four Top Doorslammers (Packman, Reed, former Speedway star Todd Waddell and team boss Brett Stevens) joined on track by the team’s Pro Stock Motorcycle pilot Luke Crowley and ‘the Boss’ pulling double duty in the Top Alcohol category, while for round two the team’s Top Bike entries of Brett Stevens, Kim Stevens, Alex Borg and Troy McLean will all head down the Queensland quarter-mile.

While the ENZED International Nightfire New Year Series creeps ever closer and is next on the calendar for the Doorlsammers, Top Bike, Pro Stock Motorcycle and Pro Stock professional categories, the categories of Top Fuel and Top Alcohol still have rounds left to run before heading to Queensland.

Top Fuel will take to the track twice, with their third round of the 2008/2009 ANDRA Championship scheduled for this weekend at the Perth Motorplex, WA, before they join the Top Alcohol category at Sydney Dragway on December 26 and 27. The Boxing Day event will be the third round in the championship for the Top Alcohol competitors.

The ENZED International Nightfire New Year Series will hit the track over two massive events with the first featuring International 7000hp Nitro Funny Car Competition and rounds of the ANDRA Championship Drag Racing Series for Top Alcohol, Top Doorslammer and Pro Stock Motorcycle on January 2/3.

The second round of the New Year Series on January 16/17 will see a complete Nitro Invasion when the International 7000hp Nitro Funny Car Competition PLUS the 7000hp Nitro Top Fuel Dragsters and 1500hp Nitro Top Bikes hit the strip to complete the two-round hit-out and a combination that has not been seen in Australia for years.

USA Nitro Funny Car Legend Densham will provide the international component to the USA vs AUST Nitro Funny Car Tour which will form the lynch-pin of the New Year Series, with his Chevrolet Nitro Funny Car exclusively booked at the Ipswich drag strip alongside an impressive list of local nitro funny cars.

There is no doubt there will be a new performance standard set for Nitro Funny Cars in Australia when Densham arrives in this country and Australian teams will be stepping up to the mark .

The ENZED International Nightfire New Year Series is one of the jewels in the crown in the recently revamped major Event calendar for Willowbank Raceway – which kicked off with the new-for-2008 Spring Top Fuel Championships in September.
