CompetitionPlus.com has learned the former NHRA track prep ace and recent IRL official Chad Head will serve as team manager for Alan Johnson’s Al-Anabi nitro team scheduled to debut in 2009.

Sources close to the situation have told CompetitionPlus.com the move to name a driver for the Top Fuel dragster should hit a crescendo in the weeks to come.

Those same inside sources have confirmed Al-Anabi’s leaders covet Larry Dixon’s driving talents for the Jason McCulloch-tuned digger and will do what it takes to get him. The only snag, we are told, is the contract which exists with the former Top Fuel champion’s current team owner Don Prudhomme.

Prudhomme reportedly just isn’t letting go.

CompetitionPlus.com discussed the rumors with Don Prudhomme Racing team manager Skip Alum whose consistent responses to all questions, including an inquiry of whether Prudhomme is holding Dixon hostage to a contract, was “We have a contract and that’s all I’m saying.”

Dixon was also asked of his 2009 plans in his post-race press conference and became agitated with respected motorsports writer Louie Brewster, who writes for one of the larger drag racing friendly newspapers in southern California.

“Who cares? Are you serious? Let me enjoy the moment,” Dixon lashed out.

A rumor of Doug Kalitta taking the gig surfaced during the Pomona weekend and appears to have a minimal amount of merit. A source close to the Kalitta camp confirmed with CompetitionPlus.com conversations have taken place with the Al-Anabi/Alan Johnson group but the likelihood of their driver leaving is an honest slim-to-none.

CompetitionPlus.com also discussed the rumors with two drivers, J.R. Todd and Steve Torrence, whose 2009 plans appear up in the air at this moment. Both confirmed minimal if any conversations have taken place.

Sources still point to Dixon, although the parties involved are adamant the contract with DPM will be adhered to.
