“I’ve heard all kinds of things floating out there including we had signed a two-car team with well known driver and sponsor, the funny thing is, no one ever mentioned a thing about it to me,” Black said. “We do have some deals in the works but unless there is a signed contract, there’s nothing.”

“I’ve heard all kinds of things floating out there including we had signed a two-car team with well known driver and sponsor, the funny thing is, no one ever mentioned a thing about it to me,” Black said. “We do have some deals in the works but unless there is a signed contract, there’s nothing.”

Black told CompetitionPlus.com that his Top Fuel team was one of at least three in the running for the Geico deal when he was told it went elsewhere.

“We do have a team working on some programs and they are promising,” Black admitted. “I try to stay out of the loop until it gets serious. Then I get involved.”

Black said a decision regarding his Top Fuel team will likely be made at the season-ending event in Pomona.

“We’re not making any decisions until then,” Black added. “You never can tell, something might come along where we get our foot in the door. I’ve always been the kind of person that I’m either in or out, there’s no middle ground. I’m not into these part-time deals of a race here and a race there.”

Black said he will keep Hillary Will on his payroll if the team must park and likely his crew will be dispersed within the Kalitta Motorsports operation.

The Pro Stock team has a solid foundation for at least two cars with the very realistic option of a third car in 2009. At this point in the game, Black added, the third car’s existence will depend on procuring adequate sponsorship funding.

“We have a deal working on that,” Black said. “We hope to have something certain by Vegas one way or another.”
