ALL IN A DAY’S WORK FOR A PROMOTER

Promoter Dave Hance has quite a weekend with his Shakedown at E’town event …

Dave Hance had quite the weekend.

The part-time promoter and drag racer brought the drag racing community a spectacle of an event and after six years of promoting a fast doorslammer at his home track in Englishtown, N.J., he finally hit the home run.

The Al Anabi Shakedown at E’town didn’t fill the grandstands, but the 2008 event laid the groundwork for what promises to be an incredible 2009 event.

All in a day’s work for Hance as the event showcased the first-ever five second run in nitrous doorslammer history, the quickest and fastest absolute full-bodied pass, and world records in four of the five divisions contested.

He even wrecked his new Mustang.

Such is the life of a promoter who provided one of the largest paydays in the history of doorslammer racing outside of the nationally sanctioned shootouts. Winners in the supercharged and nitrous divisions each pocketed $20,000 per victory.

“If it wasn’t the best, it ranked right up there,” Hance said. “We are so happy with how this turned out … the racers, the sponsors and our staff. So many people came together to make this happen. I am so happy.”

Hance might have had the perfect weekend had it not have been for dinging up his new Mustang. The promoter also competed in the Drag Radial division.

On a bye run, his car apparently lost traction and spun out, making contact with the retaining wall. If you discount his pride, Hance was uninjured.

“You have to give credit to these stock suspension guys because they don’t get the credit they deserve,” Hance added.

As a racer, Hance was bummed but confident over the results of the weekend. As a race promoter, he was floored.

“The Halsey gang were like five second bracket racers,” Hance beamed. “We wanted the first five-second pass and it did happen at Shakedown. It was awesome and I can’t believe it still. This event was a dream.”
