MIKE STAWICKI CAPTURES KC AUTO PARTS FAMILY DAY PMRA CHALLENGE AT CAYUGA DRAGWAY

Driving the G-Force Race Cars 1967 Camaro, Mike Stawicki of Medina, New York became the first three-time winner in Pro clip_image002_048.jpgModified Racing Association history by winning the rescheduled Fourth Annual KC Auto Parts Family Day PMRA Challenge presented by Paul Wolf Electric & Lighting Supply Inc., Osram Sylvania and Independent Electrical Distributors.
 
The event, part of OSCA’s (Ontario Street Car Association) 2008 McIntyre Automotive Championship Finals was held at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario.
 
“I’m very happy with today,” said a pleased Mike Stawicki after the race, the fifth of six PMRA events for 2008. “It didn’t matter what lane we ran in today. The Cayuga team were on top of their game, the track was in great shape. Stawicki bested Mark Nielson of Brantford, Ontario in the final with a 6.094-second, 236.51 mph pass over Nielson’s traction-plagued 10.045-second, 90.49 mph effort.
 
The victory was Stawicki’s second in PMRA competition for 2008. He previously won the PMRA race at Dunn Tire Raceway Park in Lancaster, New York. His first PMRA win came at the Cayuga Dragway in 2005.
 
Stawicki was number one qualifier for the race, setting a series record at 6.068-seconds at 237.30 miles per hour, and eliminated Jack Grainy of North Tonawanda, New York, and current PMRA points leader Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario in the semi before meeting up with Nielson and his Nielson Motorsports 1967 Camaro in the final. Nielson qualified number three for the race, and beat Sam Andreacchi of Toronto, Ontario and Terry Brown of Caledonia, Ontario before going into the final round.
 
Crew chief for the winning car, and G-Force Race Cars owner Jim Salemi was also pleased with the day’s events. “We were happy with the car all day,” he commented. “We were as consistent as possible, and it paid off. That’s the name of the game.”
 
PMRA Pro Modified racing will continue Sunday, September 21 for another rescheduled event, the Third Annual Victoria Day Weekend-PMRA Challenge. This event will also take place at Cayuga, and with qualifying held during Saturday, round one of eliminations are to take place at 1:00 p.m.
 
Stawicki carded number one spot in qualifying for this race, with Nielson second, Brown third, Boland fourth, and Grainy rounding out the top five.
 
Going into Sunday’s race, Boland has a 40-point lead over Terry Brown, followed by Joe Boniferro of Niagara Falls, Ontario taking over third position and Jeff Roth of Kitchener, Ontario in fourth.
