FORD EASING INTO NHRA PRO STOCK?

New leadership in Ford's motorsports program could bring the Blue Oval back into NHRA Pro Stock, albeit on a limited basis.

Brian Wolfe recently succeeded Dan Davis, who retired last month, as Ford's Director of Racing technology.

A past drag racer himself, he sees the value in Pro Stock representation for the manufacturer, while continuing to focus on their programs with John Force and Bob Tasca.

Jim Cunningham's Mustang is the only Ford competing this season in NHRA Pro Stock.

This doesn't mean they aren't interested in exploring the possibility of assisting racers who step forward.

"Ford Racing wants to be a 'racer-friendly' organization to all those that want to race Ford bodied or Ford-powered vehicles," Wolfe told CompetitionPlus.com during the NHRA Carolinas Nationals in Concord, N.C. "Although we currently are unable to commit to a factory Pro Stock effort, we are willing to work with those competitors out there to help them develop the key parts and pieces that will help them be competitive when racing Ford products."

Wolfe added that he and his group are exploring all options.

“As part of our Ford Racing Performance Parts business we are looking into offering a body kit, as well as helping develop a new block and cylinder head that will help our loyal racers,” Wolfe added.

Ford has been dormant in factory Pro Stock support since the mid-1990s when the sponsored 10-time world champion Bob Glidden.
