DON SCHUMACHER – “I AM OVER IT”

DSA_6506.jpgDon Schumacher has had his fill of the nitromethane controversy and as far as he’s concerned, he’s moving on with life.

He’s seen the comments by VP Race Fuels that alleges he’s holding the sport hostage and most recently in an interview with Graham Light published in CompetitionPlus.com where the NHRA’s Vice President stated Schumacher's decision to sell to those drivers testing at facilites outside the NHRA schedule might result in problems down the road.

“None of that is my fault, nor is it my responsibility,” Schumacher said. “It has always been NHRA and VP Race Fuels’ responsibility to maintain enough supply in the country for the sport. I think it’s a shame to eliminate testing which the teams need. Those are decisions the NHRA makes and I have no power over their decisions. I’m a large team owner and I’m concerned, but they are not my problems.”

Schumacher begins the selling off of his product – but not to NHRA’s official supplier …

I’m a large team owner and I’m concerned, but they are not my problems.”

On Tuesday, after sending a letter to the principle parties for P.R.O. a day earlier, Schumacher began selling off his surplus. Schumacher wouldn’t comment on who purchased the nitro other than to say, he’s unloading the product.

Schumacher admitted that he’s sold his nitromethane already to other teams and in the past he’s sold them under market rate, but with the increased costs that’s where he’s headed. He declined to list any of the teams who have already purchased barrels of nitromethane.

I’ve done nothing wrong at all. I’ve tried to help the racers with lower priced fuel and the NHRA to have enough fuel to complete their events. I’m through talking nitro.

He’s clearly frustrated with the lack of support from the parties involved. Schumacher confirmed that he tried to get P.R.O. set up as a distributor but the extreme demands of personnel and equipment made that idea prohibitive.

Beyond P.R.O., Schumacher admitted he even tried to set up Steve LeSueur at Steve’s Fast Fuels. That idea was nixed by the NHRA.

“I’m just tired of it all,” Schumacher said. “This nitro thing has been so beat to death. I don’t want to continue rebutting and everything. I’ve already said too much in this situation as it is. There’s a point where you leave it where it is.

“There’s a shortage of nitromethane and it is in VP’s and NHRA’s hands. That’s a VP and NHRA problem, not a Don Schumacher racing problem.
