CARPENTER BRINGING WORLD'S FASTEST '55 CHEVY TO FARMINGTON

FarmQ-8May242008528.jpgPro Modifed pioneer Charles Carpenter is heading to Farmington Dragway this weekend with consistent performance from his brand new ’55 Chevy on his mind.

“The car ran really well right out of the box,” said Carpenter. “In this day and age of ultra-lightweight cars, huge motors, and new technology, just getting a car together and and on the track is a feat. To go out and run well in your first outing is sort of in the back of your mind, whereas making sure everything works is the main priority.”

Carpenter will return to the same place he debuted the car, which should aid in gathering the data that is crucial to consistent success on the track. Carpenter will return to the same place he debuted the car, which should aid in gathering the data that is crucial to consistent success on the track.

“The fact that we are taking the car right back to the only track it has been on should help us,” Carpenter added. “We will have some data to work with, and hope to be able to run a low number with more consistency this time around. We actually recorded the second-quickest ET of the weekend at the last race, but couldn’t produce in the heat. We’ve made some adjustments and really studied the data so we don’t repeat that problem.”

Carpenter is looking forward to making a few test passes Friday night, and taking on the stout Quick 8 Racers Association field Saturday. Even for someone that has more passes in a Pro Mod under his belt than virtually any other driver, every chance to take the tree is a welcome opportunity.

“At least for me, I can never get enough runs in one of these things,” Carpenter admitted. “You really need all you can get, especially with a brand new car. There are all kinds of new buttons and switches in this thing, and I’ve got to get accustomed to it all. We were a little rusty and out of whack last time, so we will get our routine back in line and come out swinging.”
