CANNONS WILL RUN REST OF 2008

The father and son world championship Pro Modified duo Scotty and Scott Cannon will race in 2008 thanks to a last minute sponsorship from Mark Pullen, owner of Mark’s Truck Repair LLC in Baltimore, Md. Pullen had taken delivery of a brand new Pontiac Firebird from Vanishing Point Race Cars, one nearly identical to the one Cannon recently sold.

Scotty had planned to sit out the balance of the 2008 season and search for a sponsor to replace Torco Race Fuels.

“I told these guys when they bought the car I would be able to help run the car because without a sponsor we would not be at the remaining events,” Cannon said. “It looks like now we will be at all the races with two cars just like our original plan. Mark has stepped up as well as Damien Moore from Moore’s Body shop in Baltimore because they want to see us continue to race. We are absolutely still in search of a major sponsor at this point.”

Scott, who answers to the nickname Junior, will also be able to defend his first world championship at the remainder of the 2008.

“I was beginning to think I would not be able to defend my title this year. Now we will just take it round by round and see where we end up” said Cannon Jr.

The team will only run one car this weekend in Milan and that will be driven by Scott. Scotty will return to competition in Budds Creek, Md., during the IHRA President’s Cup Nationals.

Pullen has owned several Pro Modified entries in the past and has raced in both IHRA and outlaw competition.

When I heard that Scotty Cannon had sold his car and was available to drive I jumped at the chance to put him in the seat of my new car,” said Pullen.

Scotty will be absent from this weekend’s event due to an already scheduled business trip to Dubai. Cannon is tuning the car he had planned to drive this year but sold due to the loss of his sponsorship.
