NEW PRIZES & AWARDS HIGHLIGHT 2ND ANNUAL WORLD FOOTBRAKE CHALLENGE

The second annual World Footbrake Challenge presented by Jeg’s and Bill Taylor Engineering is coming to beautiful Bristol Dragway Memorial Day Weekend: May 23-25. The event, which last season drew nearly 300 top Footbrake competitors from across the nation, once again features an unheard of $125,000-plus purse along with several great prizes. Saturday’s main event will feature one of, if not the single largest Footbrake winners purse of the season; with $50,000 going to the Saturday champion.

In addition to the great guaranteed payouts that racers have come to expect from the World Footbrake Challenge, the 2008 event will feature several additional prizes thanks to involvement from supporting manufacturers. For the first five rounds of the World Footbrake Challenge (in each day of competition), the best losing package of each round will be consoled with a great prize. Mickey Thompson Tires will sponsor the first round of competition; with the best losing package earning a set of Mickey Thompson Slicks for their machine. CSR Performance Products is the 2nd round sponsor; the best losing package in round 2 earns their choice of a CSR Billet Water Pump, Platinum Series Starter, or Pro Series Tire Gauge. B&M Performance brings us round 3; awarding the best losing package with a new shifter and transmission cooler. Round 4 is sponsored by Goodyear Tires; with the best losing package earning a complimentary set of Goodyear Slicks for their vehicle. The round 5 sponsor is Nitrous Express, supplying the best losing package of the fifth round with a $500 gift certificate good towards the purchase of any NX nitrous system or affiliated product.

Also, new for 2008 is the Jeg’s “Duck” Race. This dubious shootout is open only to weekend entrants who failed to win a round all weekend (minimum 3 losses). Each entrant into the Jeg’s “Duck” Race will earn a $100 Jeg’s gift certificate, and the winner of the shootout will receive a free weekend entry to the 2009 World Footbrake Challenge.

Nitroplate is proud to sponsor the Nitroplate “Step Up to the Plate” award, which will be provided to the racer who posts the first perfect run or best overall package for each day of the event. For their accomplishment, that competitor will receive a $500 gift certificate to Nitroplate, the leader in high performance coatings.

Huntsville Engine and Performance will provide another dubious award; the “Safety Safari” award. The first competitor to require a lengthy on-track clean-up due to an engine malfunction will receive a $500 labor gift certificate to HEPC.

The promoters of the “Last Chance Footbrake Race” at Cecil County Dragway have also pitched in a free weekend entry to their 2008 event. That entry will be given away in a drawing of all of the World Footbrake Challenge Weekend tech cards.

Finally, Advanced Product Design will once again sponsor the “Long Distance Award,” rewarding the competitor who makes the longest journey to Bristol Dragway with a complete APD fuel system (kit includes belt-drive fuel pump, diaphragm bypass regulator, diverting valve, fuel filter, drive mandrel, and mounting kit).

“Thanks to all of these fine sponsors, we believe we’ve added value to what was already ‘The World‘s Greatest Footbrake Race,’” explained the events co-promoter Jared Pennington. “In addition to the racers who advance deep into eliminations and earn some of the big money, these prizes help distribute the purse down to the racers who aren’t as fortunate. The World Footbrake Challenge, above all else, is a really fun event; and we know everyone is having more fun when they’re winning something--so we’ve tried to throw in more rewards like this to distribute the purse as much as possible.”
