KONIGSHOFER RETURNS

jk-01.jpgOne of Canada's all-time famous drag racing teams, the Konigshofer Brothers, will be returning to action in 2008, rejoining IHRA's ferocious Mountain-motor Pro Stock circuit.

The Otterville, Ontario-based team, who have been racing together since 1991 and who made significant drag racing history back in 2002 when they became the first Canadian drag racing team ever to win national event titles in Pro Stock (at TMP and Norwalk), are scheduled to take delivery in the very near future of an all new 2008 Ford Mustang. If things go according to plan, testing will commence in March followed by a national event debut during the IHRA's Spring Nationals at Rockingham NC in April. A "full pull" on the remaining 2008 IHRA national event season would follow after that.

According to Frank Konigshofer, the new Ford Mustang will feature all the "latest and greatest" Pro Stock technology.

"It's a new Jerry Haas built race car with the most current 822 CID Jon Kaase engine program," Frank revealed. "We will even have the new Braswell carburetors which have been built specifically for Mountain motor Pro Stock racing."

Frank did admit that since 2006 things have been a bit frustrating for he and his brothers John and Joe. The team ran only 3-4 events that year with their Cougar before deciding to sit out the 2007 season.

"It became apparent that we had done all we could with the technology we had," he added. "In Pro Stock the advances are so quick and constant it can be difficult to keep up. It was very frustrating for us because of what we had accomplished before. So last year we spent most of the year getting parts together. Once we sold the Cougar we had the necessary funds to go ahead an order the new car. We are going to do some testing first at a track that is meaningful (target Valdosta GA) and give John some seat time. Our objective is to get back to our previous level -- be class players and win once again."

The team is also planning a trip West to Edmonton Alberta this coming June. The team did make an exhibition appearance with their Ford Quality Care-sponsored Ford Thunderbird at Calgary's Race City Speedway back in the mid 1990's, but have so far not yet been a participant at the IHRA's Rocky Mountain Nationals event.
