U.S. ARMY SAYS FAREWELL TO PSM

A_Sampey.jpgU.S. Army Pro Stock Motorcycle riders Angelle Sampey and Antron Brown finished the 2007 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series season strong Sunday at the Auto Club Finals at Pomona, by posting semifinal round advancements.

Sampey closed the campaign holding fifth-place in the points, with Brown finished in 10th. The Auto Club Finals marked the close of Sampey’s and Brown’s four-year run with the Army.

“We are very proud of the passion and dedication that Angelle and Antron have shown over the past several years, both on- and off-track,” said Colonel David Lee, director, marketing and strategic communications for the U.S. Army. “Throughout their career with the U.S. Army, they have exemplified Army values, showing true mental, emotional and physical strength through their racing success and their participation in the U.S. Army’s educational programs, visits with soldiers, multicultural programs, and numerous other national events.”

During their four seasons with the team, Sampey and Brown collectively claimed 16 wins. Sampey finished her U.S. Army Racing career with 10 wins, 10 runner-up honors and six poles while Brown raced to a total of six wins, nine runner-up placements and five poles.

While with the Army, Sampey and Brown visited more than 100 schools in local race markets, providing motivational counsel and serving as positive role models for the students. They also spoke to more than 52,000 students through the U.S. Army’s Youth and Educational Services program, where they talked to youth about the importance of education and career opportunities available to them.

Additionally, both Sampey and Brown experienced the U.S. Army first-hand through their participation in a four-day long boot camp session at Fort Jackson. They also had an opportunity to jump with the Golden Knights, the U.S. Army’s nationally renowned parachuting team.

While Sampey is still unsure what the future holds, Brown announced this weekend that he will be piloting a Top Fuel dragster next year.

“We are truly sad to say goodbye to Antron and Angelle,” said Colonel Lee. “We wish them nothing but the best and thank them for their time and support of the U.S. Army and its Soldiers.”
