DSA 6055Ron Capps admitted his crew walked around through much of Friday's testing at Palm Beach International Raceway with their heads down in defeat. Run after run was often met with tire smoke or shake, and aborted runs.

During Friday's final testing run at the PRO Winter Warm-up the NAPA Auto Parts-sponsored driver was given the green light to run his new Dodge Charger to the finish line. The end result was a  4.023, 321.4, the quickest run of this week's testing.

"We were beat-down dogs," said Capps. "We've messed around and messed around, shook and rattled, blew the tires off early and finally [crew chief Rahn] Tobler put everything back like we had it at Vegas in the Fall. He only let me go to half-track to make sure the fuel system was okay."

The run told Capps and Tobler all they needed to know, as the incrementals measured up to a 3.99 elapsed time.

"It's been tough for all of the DSR teams," said Capps. "We have watched all day with all of the DSR Top Fuel cars going down the track and all the while we struggled. These test sessions can be so fragile because you can come in here know the conditions are so good and there's nothing wrong with the track, but they warrant combinations to set world records. You have to really be careful as a crew chief."

Running opposite Capps was 2014 NHRA Funny Car champion Matt Hagan, whose 4.058, 320.05 placed his second quickest of testing. Tommy Johnson Jr. [4.065, 307.86] and Chad Head [4.079, 309.49] were third and fourth.

Spencer Massey jumped back to the top of the leaderboard with a 3.723, 332.36 pass during Friday's final test run. Tony Schumacher made his best run of testing with a 3.739, 305.70. Doug Kalitta also made his quickest run with a 3.753, 324.05.
