The NHRA Technical Department is increasing the minimum weight for nitrous-assisted entries from 2,425 pounds to 2,475 pounds. The minimum weight for turbocharged entries will remain at 2,650 pounds while the minimum weight for supercharged entries will remain at 2,600 pounds. These rule changes will go into effect immediately. NHRA said they will make additional parity adjustments as necessary.

Nitrous racer Rickie Smith won the recently completed NHRA Southern Nationals, scoring the second victory for the combination in three races. Mike Janis, a supercharged racer, won the event in Houston.
