Force dominated the Countdown to the Championship playoffs after struggling in the regular season. He advanced to the final round at five of the six races in the playoffs and won three of them (St. Louis, Reading, Las Vegas 2).

Dan Kmiec, who’s worked with the Funny Car teams as technical manager for Ford Racing for three years, accepted the award, Ford’s sixth in the sport, at the NHRA Mello Yello Series Awards Ceremony in Los Angeles Monday, after the Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif.

“On behalf of all the people at Ford Motor Company, I would like to thank the teams that race the Mustang in NHRA,” Kmiec said. “In particular, Bo Butner in Stock, Larry Morgan in Pro Stock, Bob Tasca, Tim Wilkerson, Robert Hight, Courtney Force and, of course, John Force.

“The race for the 2013 Manufacturers Cup was intensely competitive and challenging. The teams’ quest for speed and consistency, trying to master the nuances of new hardware, and dealing with all the things that can’t be controlled, combined with fierce competition, set the stage for a close race in the Manufacturers Cup. It’s been amazing to see the Mustang teams work so hard, dig deep, find that extra effort and come up with a come-from-behind win. Thanks to all the drivers and crews for their hard work.”
