FORCE ADDRESSES PROCK TO TOP FUEL

recliner denver 4When John Force recently said crew chief Jimmy Prock was going to Top Fuel with his team, he wasn’t just blowing hot air.

“We are only looking at Top Fuel, We have a dragster, maybe another one, and that’s where Jimmy Prock came from,” Force said to Competition Plus Sunday morning at the Mile-High Nationals near Denver. “You evaluate who would lead that program for me. We really haven’t had conversations. Jimmy is part of my family and he is going to be with me and I move the people to the right place. We are just addressing it.”

Force also said Prock’s move to Top Fuel will not happen anytime soon.

“Right now, no,” said Force, who lost in the first round at the Mile-High Nationals to Bob Tasca III. “We are driving Funny Car the next two years. We are talking about adding another Top Fuel car, but we are not there yet. The next two years will be the way we are right now.”

Prock first made a name for himself as a crew chief for Top Fuel driver Cory McClenathan in 1992 when Cory Mac finished second in the point standings. Prock then moved on to five-time world champion Top Fuel pilot Joe Amato and guided Amato to 18 wins.

John Force Racing’s stable consists of John and his daughter Courtney Force driving nitro Funny Cars, along with his son-in-law Robert Hight. Force’s daughter Brittany Force is in her rookie year driving a Top Fuel dragster for JFR. This is the first season JFR has campaigned a Top Fuel dragster on the NHRA circuit.

On July 14 Force announced his crew chief Mike Neff and crew would be assigned to the Auto Club Funny Car team of driver Robert Hight. Hight’s crew chief Prock and crew would be paired with the 15-time champion.

“From now on that’s permanent,” Force said about the crew chief changes. “We are not switching back.”

Hight came to the Mile-High Nationals No. 11 in the point standings with only one round win since June.

“One, it ain’t just about getting our people in the Top 10,” John said. “It is about the next five years. What’s the best way to orchestrate this company? If you are considering Jimmy Prock to Top Fuel then why leave him with a driver when there might be a change later. I have to look at my future, how long am I going to drive? You know what I’m saying? I don’t think I will be driving a Top Fuel car, and if Jimmy went there, he would be going there without me. So, we don’t know. We mix things up and we are trying to do a better job for the sponsors.”
