The popular CBS Show 48 Hours will air an episode called "Murder in the
Fast Lane" chronicling the murder of Mickey and Trudi Thompson. It is believed
this segment will take the viewer through a portion of the trial, jury verdict
and sentencing of convicted murderer Michael Goodwin.
Goodwin was found guilty of ordering the
killings of Mickey and Trudy Thompson. Goodwin was found guilty on two charges
of murder in a Los Angeles courtroom.
Goodwin had been in jail
for five years awaiting trail. It took only six days of deliberations for the
guilty verdicts. The expected sentence is life without parole.
"I'm sure they're some
people in heaven smiling," said Thompson's sister, Collene Campbell. "This
verdict doesn't bring anybody back to us, but it was the proper American thing
that was done."
According to a Los Angeles Times report, prosecutors said Thompson was shot repeatedly but kept alive and forced to watch the murder of his wife, Trudy, before he was shot in the head execution-style. Because valuable jewelry and cash was left behind led the investigators to believe this was a vengeance killing. Goodwin went bankrupt after a business dispute with Thompson prior to the murders.
