Action on the track was as thrilling as expected with nitro fumes, wheel stands and centerline to guardrail excitement.  In the first round of eliminations, number one qualifier Chris Trussell and his nitromethane burning "Assassin" 1923 T bodied fuel altered advanced to the final round with a 3.90 at 188 mph winning pass.  Joining him in the money round was two time defending series Champion Jimmy Jones and the "Texas Tremor" blown alcohol team.  Jones defeated Mary Reep in the opening round with a 3.92 at 174 mph.

As the cars crept into the beams for the final round, a favorite was hard to choose.  All eyes were on the ambers as the tree came down and Jones took a slight starting line advantage.  Trussell and Jones were side by side, Trussell with flames reaching for the sky as Jones started to pull ahead and at the stripe Jones took the win light with a 3.87 at 185 mph to Trussell's 3.99 at 181 mph.

For Jones it was a win that stood out above the rest as his competitors were to thank for his success on this night.  Jones discovered a broken frame rail upon unloading his car on Saturday afternoon and with the help of Allen Meyer, Terry Brian and Kebin Kinsley the car was repaired in time to make the show and eventually take the win.  A true example of racers coming to the rescue of their fellow competitors in a time of need, a common occurrence in the OFAA series.

"I'd like to thank everyone who helped our team get the car repaired for the race, without them we would have missed the race completely.  It's a good feeling to know you've got some many friends in the pits and when someone needs something, you’ve got the guy you might soon be running in the other lane there helping you get ready for the round.  My crew did an outstanding job and none of this would be possible without my partner Paul Kelley.  We got it done tonight, but it wasn't easy, there's a lot of competition in the OFAA and this year will surely be a challenge," said Jones.

The Painless Performance Outlaw Fuel Altered Association has a weekend off before rolling north to Thunder Valley Raceway Park in Noble, Oklahoma for round 2 of 9 in the 2013 series tour.  Jones holds a slight point lead over Trussell with plenty of points hungry competitors ready to share the spotlight.  For more information visit www.ofaa.net.

The debut of the Southwest Heritage Racing Association went off with a bang as grassroots nostalgia drag racers from across the southwest and from as far as Colorado and Minnesota came to participate in the series' inaugural event.  The SHRA features two sportsman classes and three nostalgia eliminator index classes and with support from Mallory Screen Print & Embroidery, Good Vibrations Motorsports, Harry's Hot Rod & Truck Accessories, Triple C Agency, North Texas Diesel, Competition Sales of Dallas and AlkyDiggers, the racers were eager to hit the strip.

The Southwest Heritage Racing Association's next event will feature the Nostalgia Eliminator classes where they will headline the Texas Motorplex's "Old School Showdown" on Saturday April 20th.  For more information visit www.shraracing.com.

His opponent, Timothy Lyons in his 1965 Biscayne, had the better package with a dial of 8.86 and time slip of an 8.87 at 75 mph (.569 rt), but Cogwell's reaction time proved the difference at the top end.

SHRANostalgiaBracketWinnerJamesArmstrongThe Nostalgia Bracket class featured a first year driver James Armstrong in a 1923 T bodied injected altered up against Travis Resar's 1929 coupe. Resar's nerves might have got the best of him as he went well under his dial (8.99 on a 9.41 dial) while Armstrong went straight and true down the eighth mile to claim the win light, the first of his career, with a 6.08 at 117 mph on a 5.68 dial.
