Jason Line, NHRA’s 2006 and 2011 Pro Stock world champion, still was extremely pleased with the performance of his Summit Racing Camaro during testing Tuesday at Rockingham (N.C.) Dragway.

Line clocked an unofficial Pro Stock world record elapsed time of 6.446 seconds.

“That’s fast, and it was really good,” Line said in an interview with Competition Plus.com. “The air was really good and the conditions were fast. It was exciting. Getting those kind of conditions, and saying you can go fast and doing it are two different things.”

Line’s quick lap was no fluke as he also ran 6.449-seconds on three other test runs and a 6.45 on another run Tuesday.

According to Line, the high temperature during the test session was 56 degrees.

Greg Anderson, Line’s teammate, set the unofficial Pro Stock quickest mark at 6.460 seconds this past off-season during testing at Bradenton (Fla.) Motorsports Park.

The official NHRA Pro Stock record is 6.473 seconds set by Mike Edwards at the Gatornationals on March 17 in Gainesville, Fla., this year.

Line said his team was slated to test at zMax Dragway in Charlotte, N.C., but decided to change locations to Rockingham.

“We came over here (to Rockingham) because it was going to be a little bit warmer (the track temperature),” Line said. “Plus, zMax hasn’t been run on for a long time, so we felt like we had a better chance of getting down the race track and learning what we needed to learn (at Rockingham). It was a good test.”

Line said Anderson’s fastest run Tuesday was 6.46 seconds. Allen Johnson, Shane Gray, and Erica Enders-Stevens also were at the test session.

“We will also test (Friday),” Line said. “Hopefully, we can make six, maybe seven runs.”

Despite Line’s blistering fast runs, he isn’t making any guarantees for the next event on the NHRA schedule, the Summitracing.com Nationals at the Strip in Las Vegas April 5-7.

“The only thing Las Vegas and Rockingham have in common is they are both a quarter-mile,” Line said. “Beyond that, I would say nothing.”
