THE DOORSLAMMERS ARE TESTING IN BRADENTON

stevens_richie-ajWhile their nitro brethren are just a few hours down the interstate in southern Florida, a gathering of doorslammers are putting their carbs and gasoline [and nitrous, in some instances] through the paces in Badenton, Fla., just outside of Tampa.

There are nine NHRA Pro Stockers, three ADRL Pro Nitrous entries, an ADRL Extreme Pro Stocker and one Pro Stock Motorcycle getting back into the groove for the upcoming season.

There were tense moments as bike rider Michael Phillips wrecked his Suzuki. He walked away from the accident.

The quickest NHRA Pro Stock run of the day belonged to Richie Stevens, driving for the convalescing Allen Johnson, with a 6.485elapsed time at 212.26 miles per hour. He was followed by the Ford driven by Larry Morgan with a 6.500,211.26. Erica Enders laid down a 6.559,209.55.

Stevens, also driving his ADRL XPS Mustang, ran a 4.025, 178.78.

Mike Castellana was the quicker of the two Pro Nitrous cars with a 3.945, 191.28.

Testing will resume today.

In addition to subbing for Allen Johnson, Richie Stevens made passes in his Extreme Pro Stocker and ran a 4.025, 178.78 best. This season will mark the first for legal EFI in this class. It's unknown at this moment if he is planning to run EFI this season.

Mike Castellana had his new Rick Jones-built 2012 Camaro out in full force with a 3.945-second best on an early shutoff race.

Erica Enders had a best 6.559 second pass at 209.05.

Larry Morgan is pulling double-duty this week in running his tried and true entry from 2011 and breaking in a new Ford for this season. Morgan ran a 6.500 with the old car while team driver Buddy Perkinson recorded a 6.596, 207.66 with the new entry [below].
