Former NHRA U.S. Nationals champion and two-time NHRA Pro Modified series champion Mike Ashley will return at the end of this season as a Top Fuel driver.

Ashley, of Melville, NY, confirmed today with CompetitionPlus.com of his plans to attain his Top Fuel dragster license following next month's Las Vegas event for a debut at the AAA NHRA Finals in Pomona, Ca.

Ashley, of Melville, NY, confirmed today with CompetitionPlus.com of his plans to attain his Top Fuel dragster license following next month's Las Vegas event for a debut at the AAA NHRA Finals in Pomona, Ca.

Ashley finished in the Top 10 of the 2007 NHRA Countdown to 1 and scored national event victories in Topeka and Indianapolis. He also held the Funny car speed record.

Ashley hasn't raced nitro since the 2008 NHRA SuperNationals.

Ashley declined to reveal more details of his forthcoming return at this moment adding that he will reveal more details in the days to come.
