HE'S A VERSATILE MAD MAN

When you bear the moniker of "Mad Man", having the ability to be versatile comes in handy.

While racing in the Arabian Drag Racing League in Doha, Qatar, Frankie “Mad Man” Taylor has not only showcased his driving skills as a driver in the volatile Pro Extreme division but has also bolted on the narrow tires and races in the Extreme 10.5 division, a category which is essentially Pro Modified cars racing on tires measuring reasonably close to 10 and a half inches wide.

“We were debating all week if we should run the yellow Corvette with smaller tires on it or not,” said Taylor, who not only raced one of his Pro Extreme Corvettes on 10.5-inch tires during Round 5 of the Qatar Racing Club but also emerged victorious.

“With having so much 10.5 experience on our crew with Billy (Stocklin) and Kenny (Hubbard), we thought it would be fun to give it a shot.”  He was quick to add, “I’m glad we did.”

Qualifying in the number two spot with a pass of 4.01-seconds was impressive considering that this was Frankie’s first weekend racing on small tires.  Solid runs in the XTF elimination rounds produced elapsed times of 3.96, 3.96 and then a 3.932-seconds in the final to beat the a red-lighting Dan Millen.

“Don’t get me wrong, our main focus is on the black Corvette and winning the Pro Extreme class,” Taylor pointed out.  “But we will be pushing the yellow car in the XTF class as well and hopefully running in the 3.80’s at the next race.”

Currently Taylor ranks second in the Arabian Drag Racing League points, 302 points behind J.R. Todd and only 103 points ahead of Josh Hernandez.  Meanwhile, in Extreme 10.5 championship points standings, Taylor trails point leader Dan Millen by only one point.

“We are not ruling out running two classes in the American Drag Racing League next year,” admitted Taylor. “It all depends on whether a sponsor will step up.”  “We would like to wrap both cars in time for Baytown if someone is interested.”

And somewhere along the line, Taylor believes there’s marketing appeal in a versatile “Mad Man”.
