LINE BREAKS INTO THE 11'S WITH WAGON

DSC01754NHRA Pro Stock driver Jason Line is used to scorching the quarter-mile with six-second passes in his Summit Racing Pontiac GXP. So why was he smiling after a recent low 11-second pass?

The 2006 NHRA Pro Stock champion laid down an 11.03-second, 124.40 mph pass in his 4,500 pound 1968 Chevy Biscayne station wagon. Jason bought the wagon as a project vehicle in 2009, gave it a frame-off restoration via Street Customs and Restorations in Mooresville, North Carolina, and stuffed a 557 cubic inch big block under the hood.

“My original goal was to get 750 horsepower on pump gas,” Jason said. “We exceeded that goal, so I decided to shoot for a 10-second quarter mile. Considering the 140° track temperatures, I’m very pleased with the 11.03, but we’ll run the car again in the fall and get into the 10s for sure.”

The Biscayne, which weighs nearly twice as much as his 2,300 pound Summit Racing Pro Stock GXP, features a GM Gen VI big block stroked to 557 cubic inches. The engine utilizes Trick Flow PowerPort 360 cylinder heads, Trick Flow R-Series intake, COMP Cams custom camshaft, and a Willy’s carburetor to produce 812 horsepower and 725 ft.-lbs. of torque. An ATI TH-400 transmission; Strange Posi-Traction unit, axles, and gears; and Hotchkis suspension components transfers the power to Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials.
