Burk Smith, more commonly referred to as Papa Bud by his friends and family, passed away early this morning at the age of 79. The father of drag racing legend Rickie Smith had suffered from Alzheimer's Disease.

Burk Smith, more commonly referred to as Papa Bud by his friends and family, passed away early this morning at the age of 79. The father of drag racing legend Rickie Smith had suffered from Alzheimer's Disease.

Rickie Smith dedicated both wins during the recently completed ADRL events in Houston, Texas.

Funeral arrangements include visitation on Sunday, August 8 at Burroughs Funeral Home in Walnut Cove, NC. Burial will be on Monday, August 9.
